Brown Bear

Professor Valentine Pazhetnov’s son Sergei with three orphaned bear cubs at the IFAW Bear Rescue Center in Russia. The cubs’ mother had been killed by hunters who located her in her winter den. Without the dedicated care given by the Pazhetnovs the cubs would certainly have died. They will be returned to the forest to live wild when they are around 10 months old.

With Professor Valentine Pazhetnov and one of his orphaned brown bears (above). Valentine took me walking in the forest with three of the orphans. He is among the world’s leading brown bear biologists, and has returned several hundred orphaned bear cubs to the wild.
